Introduction and Origin of Nodeulseom
Nodeulseom is a unique island located in the Han River in Seoul, South Korea. This “lying island” is a hub for artists and creative individuals, earning it the nickname “Island of Art.” If you’re looking for a peaceful escape from the busy city, Nodeulseom is a must-visit destination.
Nodeulseom was originally a small, uninhabited island, but in the 1960s, the Seoul government began a project to expand the island to prevent flooding in the surrounding areas. Over time, the island was gradually expanded by dumping soil and debris into the river until it reached its current size.

I, myself, visited the island on the 24th October 2022, after a day trip which included the War Memorial of Korea, the National Museum of Korea, Hangeul National Museum and Yongsan Family Park. Since it’s close by the grounds of the National Museum, it was easy to get there just on foot. It was a 20 minute, or so, walk. So, it’s definitely a good way to include in a day trip.
